THE ICONIC LAMBORGHINI COUNTACH

The name Countach came into being in 1970 or 1971 near to the beginning of LP112 project. All the previous cars produced by Lamborghini were named after fighting bulls and the name Countach broke the tradition. The name Countach originated from the word Contacc meaning exclamation of astonishment.

The Lamborghini Countach is a rear mid engine, rear wheel drive sports car. The iconic car was produced between 1974 to 1990. During this time only 1983 units were produced.

DESIGNER
Marcello Gandini

Lamborghini commissioned Gandini and his team at Bertone to develop a body for the unnamed prototype.

The first LP500 prototype was unveiled at the 1971 Geneva Auto Show. This car came with crisp and wedge shaped design which drew great public interest.

INTERIOR

The interior of the Countach was notable to the audience as was the exterior as it came up with new technologies and bold styling decisions.

The LP500 came up with aircraft inspired warning lights placed centrally on the steering column. One of these warning lights functions similar to a modern cruise control. Due to the poor visibility inherent in the countach design, a periscope was installed instead of a rear view mirror.
